INTRODUCTION:
ZIINE opens on May 17, 2025, as a new performance center in the heart of Copenhagen, using the newspaper editorial as its curatorial concept and featuring a locally distributed artists’ zine as its signature. Like a newspaper, ZIINE focuses on socio-political realities. ZIINE presents Danish and international artists with a performative practice. We publish a zine quarterly, so each quarter, like a magazine, features a series of fixed formats—live performances, residencies, talks, and workshops for all ages.
LIVE ART ZIINE

When tech giants in the U.S. chose to support Trump, we, like many others, were struck with disgust by META. But how else do you announce a new performance center?
LIVE ART ZIINE has taken over the 100m² storage space of Eksskolens Trykkeri in Nørrebro. We will announce our program in an old-school art zine every quarter. We handle production and distribution ourselves as a performative gesture, creating connections within the neighborhood.
Like a newspaper, we are particularly interested in socio-political realities in our curation of performative practices. ZIINE will feature a series of fixed formats, just as a newspaper has an editorial, letters to the editor, interviews, etc. These include:
- A locally distributed zine each quarter, edited or contributed to by the current artists.
- Residencies with projects, talks, and workshops. For example, in the fall of 2025, we will host Harold Hejazi (FI/CA) and Anabela Veloso (DK/P) for two weeks each, allowing the local community to drop by and meet them. In the spring of 2026, it will be John Huntington and Nørrebro Park School.
- Talks and performance evenings with artists from our curation elsewhere, such as Live Art for Children, which in 2025 will be hosted by Skjold Contemporary.
- Free family events, performances, and workshops. Live Art Denmark has many family formats, such as “Everyday Life,” developed in collaboration with three art halls in 2024.
- A Goldie evening: a talk with an artist aged 80+, live and as a podcast; for example, Alastair MacLennan (IR).
- Film night: selected performance films presented live by the artists.
- Presentation of another performance platform, such as the EU-funded “Time for Live Art” or the Nordic “Fresh Start” (Finland and Latvia). The curators describe their concept and bring a couple of artists.
- Open ZIINE: space, technical support, feedback, and an honorarium for artists who want to test new ideas.
