Live Art for Children is an annual festival presenting experimental and live art formats for all ages. This year’s theme is the sociopolitical challenges of the City of Aarhus.
Live Art for Children 2026 takes place from 2–6 September at DOKK1. We have invited eight international and award-winning artists with exciting projects that the whole family can take part in.
Programme:
2 September: 3:00–3:30 pm. Filip Vest (DK): “Heart on Your Sleeve” (ages 8+): A festival performance developed in collaboration with young people. 1:00–5:00 pm (ongoing): John Huntington (SE): “The New School” (ages 6+). Help shape the school of the future! Leif Holmstrand (SE): “Ruin Recalled” (weaving installation for all ages). Jamal Gerald (UK): “You See” (ages 12+): Have your prejudices put to the test in a 1:1 encounter with the artist.
3 September: 1:00–1:45 pm and 4:00–4:45 pm: Feral Practice (UK), Marcus Coates (UK): “Ask the Flock” (ages 8+). An entertaining show where you can ask questions about anything in life. Danish experts answer on behalf of wolves, bees and plants. 1:00–5:00 pm (ongoing): John Huntington (SE): “The New School” (ages 6+). Leif Holmstrand (SE): “Ruin Recalled”. Jamal Gerald (UK): “You See” (ages 12+).
4 September: 4:00 pm: Random People (DE), Live Art Danmark: “The Class Swap”. A live show with two 5th grade classes from Aarhus who swapped lives for a day (ages 6+). 1:00–5:00 pm (ongoing): John Huntington (SE): “The New School” (ages 6+). Leif Holmstrand (SE): “Ruin Recalled” (all ages). Jamal Gerald (UK): “You See” (ages 12+).
5 September: 1:00–1:45 pm: Mette Riise (DK): Performance about the job market of the future (ages 12+). 2:00–3:30 pm: Secret Hotel (DK): “The Game of H₂O” (ages 10+). Who owns the water of the earth? 11:00 am–3:00 pm (ongoing): John Huntington (SE): “The New School” (ages 6+). Leif Holmstrand (SE): “Ruin Recalled”. Jamal Gerald (UK): “You See” (ages 12+).
