Om liveart_dk

Liveart.dk was founded in 2004 in Copenhagen to promote the discussion, documentation and development of live art in Denmark. The organisation is equally inspired by the imaginative and entertaining English Live Art tradition as by the theoretical and political German theatre tradition. We have organised 10 large international festivals of Live Art for kids and adults since 2004, and over 40 discussion events, books, video series, symposia and more in the field of live art, performance art, art criticism and documentation. We collaborate with theatres, music venues, art museums and festivals in Denmark and internationally.

Sian Robinson Davies (UK)

Siân Robinson Davies Works for Live Art Danmark2011 “Expectations” at Samtalekøkken2014 DIVA residency, Stand Up performances ExpectationsWe’re going to start with some assumptions, because that’s where we always start. However, we will try to get further, even if all we end up with is lies and nonsense. At Samtalekøkkenet in November 2011, Siân presented “Expectations”. Dressed as a clown, she asked the audience about their expectations of “performance art” in general, and her performance in particular, and then proceeded to try to fulfill them. The performance was reviewed in the renowned Danish newspaper Politiken by Henrik Vesterberg. The review “Free salon offers soup and wood snail porn” can be found here.  Stand Up PerformancesIn […]

Showcase Beat Le Mot (DE)

Showcase Beat Le Mot Works for Live Art Danmark2009 “Vote Zombie Andy Beuyz” at Berliner Luft 42015 “Offside” at Live Art for Børn 2 Vote Zombie Andy BeuyzThe four members of Showcase Beat Le Mot, 50ish boyband members of Gießen pedigree, performed “Vote Zombie Andy Beuyz” at our fourth Berliner Luft festival. Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys, great white art men of the 20th century, were conjured up as checkered shirted zombies in a carefully outfitted haunted house, a space populated by wild and free associations on money, markets and the European Union, constructed from some debris salvaged from the ruins of Western theatre. She She Pop (DE)

She She Pop Work for Live Art Danmark 2005 “Warum tanzt ihr nicht?” at Berliner Luft 2 Warum tanzt ihr nicht? The ballroom is a promise, a place of great anticipations and secret desires and – as desires so often do not suffice – a place of hidden plans, old and new strategies and their spectacular staging. She She Pop turned the theatre space of Kanonhallen into a dance floor and showed the ballroom with all its myths as a pitfall of pathetically exaggerated expectations. Fantasy and reality diverged dramatically. Every dancer – prom queen, wallflower, gentleman or gate crasher – was caught in their role. The audience moved back […]

Robin Deacon (UK/US)

Robin Deacon Works for Live Art Danmark 2011 “The Argument against the Body” at Samtalekøkken 2014 “White Balance: A History of Video” and “Spectacle: A Portrait of Stuart Sherman” at Hitparaden 2 The Argument against the Body Robin Deacon performed “The Argument against the Body” at Samtalekøkken in Warehouse 9 in February 2011. It was a complex meditation on the ancient mind-body dualism, one of the oldest and utterly unsolvable philosophical conundrums: What am I, my mind or my body? Robin applied the question to the relationship between performer and audience. An entertaining and very smart lecture performance, the video of which can only be seen at Youtube, because there […]

Richard Foreman (US)

Richard Foreman No work with Live Art Danmark, but in 1999, Gritt Uldall-Jessen and Henrik Vestergaard organized a performance of “Hotel Fuck”, a play by New York City independent theatre legend Richard Foreman, in Copenhagen. The presentation was accompanied by a seminar about the work of the seminal director. In 2007 they established the Open Source Theater and brought Richard Foreman and Sophie Haviland from The Bridge Project back to Denmark to lead a long, intense workshop at Odsherred Theater. As Live Art Danmark did not yet exist at the time, these were not strictly speaking productions by Live Art Danmark, but the spirit was the same! General information about […]
