Panoply Performance Laboratory (US)

Panoply Performance Laboratory Work for Live Art Danmark 2013 “Any Size Mirror is a Dictator” at Hitparaden 1 Any Size Mirror is a Dictator For our first Hitparaden festival, the Brooklyn/New Yor based performance company Panoply Performance Laboratory, in their own words “actualized a framework from their current long-form social performance in progress, Any Size Mirror is a Dictator, a relational opera of refractions and “inaccurate” reflections”. Performing outside on a rainy night in Copenhagen, Valerie Kuehne, Brian McCorkle and Esther Neff transformed the complex theoretical theorems of their personal libretti into weird, striking images, involving the audience into micro rituals, performed with everyday objects like a ketchup bottle and a […]

Thomas Altheimer (DK)

Thomas Altheimer Work for Live Art Denmark 2011 “The Case against Nielsen” at Samtalekøkken The Case against Nielsen We invited Thomas to one of our Samtalekøkken events in early 2011. He used the opportunity to tell the story of his court case against Claus Beck-Nielsen, who allegedly stole his identity, by making him a character in the book “Suverænen”. Nielsen and Altheimer worked and travelled together on a series of rather radical peformative excursions, which Nielsen used as content for some of his books, fictionalising Thomas’ real name, address, family etc. It is a convoluted story of a love-hate relationship between two of the most mysterious protagonists of the contemporary […]

Robin Deacon (UK/US)

Robin Deacon Works for Live Art Danmark 2011 “The Argument against the Body” at Samtalekøkken 2014 “White Balance: A History of Video” and “Spectacle: A Portrait of Stuart Sherman” at Hitparaden 2 The Argument against the Body Robin Deacon performed “The Argument against the Body” at Samtalekøkken in Warehouse 9 in February 2011. It was a complex meditation on the ancient mind-body dualism, one of the oldest and utterly unsolvable philosophical conundrums: What am I, my mind or my body? Robin applied the question to the relationship between performer and audience. An entertaining and very smart lecture performance, the video of which can only be seen at Youtube, because there […]

Richard Foreman (US)

Richard Foreman No work with Live Art Danmark, but in 1999, Gritt Uldall-Jessen and Henrik Vestergaard organized a performance of “Hotel Fuck”, a play by New York City independent theatre legend Richard Foreman, in Copenhagen. The presentation was accompanied by a seminar about the work of the seminal director. In 2007 they established the Open Source Theater and brought Richard Foreman and Sophie Haviland from The Bridge Project back to Denmark to lead a long, intense workshop at Odsherred Theater. As Live Art Danmark did not yet exist at the time, these were not strictly speaking productions by Live Art Danmark, but the spirit was the same! General information about […]

Plan B Work for Live Art Danmark 2009 “A Bicycle Made for You” at Berliner Luft 4 A Bicycle Made for You The Berlin based performance duo Plan B created a special Copenhagen version of their tandem riding performance. Each spectator was greeted personally by one of the performers and led to a tandem that was propped up and stationary in a bike stand. The other performer was already on the front seat of the tandem, ready to go with a small screen on their back, which then became the site of the film performance. For the Copenhagen version created for “Berliner Luft 4”, Plan B asked the city’s cycle […]

On Air (US/DE)

On Air Work for Live Art Danmark 2007 “Hotel Radio” at Berliner Luft 3. Hotel Radio In a certain hotel plans were made to broadcast, from a tower on the roof of the hotel. Radio broadcasts. The name of this hotel was the Hotel Radio. Richard Foremann Hotel Radio is presented as quasi “talk radio”. Sequences vary from quiz shows to phone-ins, on topics ranging from garbage to duck hunting. Fast switching between segments, technical confusion, interruptions, and silence create extreme changes in the atmosphere of the piece. Hotel Radio observes a single person in a game with different communication and information systems, and documents the loneliness which lies beneath. […]
