About liveart_dk

Liveart.dk was founded in 2004 in Copenhagen to promote the discussion, documentation and development of live art in Denmark. The organisation is equally inspired by the imaginative and entertaining English Live Art tradition as by the theoretical and political German theatre tradition. We have organised 10 large international festivals of Live Art for kids and adults since 2004, and over 40 discussion events, books, video series, symposia and more in the field of live art, performance art, art criticism and documentation. We collaborate with theatres, music venues, art museums and festivals in Denmark and internationally.

CoreAct (DK)

CoreAct Works for Live Art Danmark 2010 “Undgåelsens bevægelighed”, Samtalekøkken Undgåelsens bevægelighed/Reflections “Reflection” is a poetic performance installation in the urban space. It is also a colorful sculpture, lighting up public places. As a poetic interpretation it addresses the issue of daily choices or lack thereof, and their consequences to our common future. The colorful glasshouse is inhabited by two performers who portray everyday dilemmas and lifestyle paradoxes in a subtle manner. They have lost the ability to meaningfully discriminate, and are trapped in a long chain of procrastination, mirroring our current social patterns. The colorful glasshouse sculpture was created by internationally renowned sculptor Tom Fruin from New York who […]

Chuck Morris (CH/DK)

Chuck Morris Works for Live Art Danmark 2011 “Souvereines” (excerpt) at Samtalekøkken. Souvereines Announced as a “royal-blue revelation for the masses”, the duo Chuck Morris transforms itself into the Coming Queen in this choreographical performance. We witness two performers spinning slowly through the darkened space of Warehouse 9, bound together by the the bare bones of the queen’s royal habit. We follow them while they retell, or maybe make real by pronouncing them, the steps to queendom and sovereignty while they gradually complete the royal gown. Their voices merge into one, drift into chanting, acquire a dreamlike quality at times. In the final scene, the new queen, bathed in red […]

Claudia Splitt (DE)

Claudia Splitt (DE)

Claudia Splitt Works for Live Art Danmark2007 “Recycle” at Berliner Luft 3 RecycleThe German singer and performer Claudia Splitt dissected love songs in this performance that explored the emotional reality behind the seeming shallowness of famous love songs. Claudia appeared dressed like a 1950s pin up model, draped over a large suitcase on an otherwise empty stage, reminiscent of a doll who was going through the extreme emotional states of a break up. Her song “Recycle” was studded with allusions to famous love songs, thus integrating herself into a long line of pop culture artists. On a video with German subtitles the song was repeated, and in between the numbers […]

Brian Catling (UK)

Brian Catling Work for Live Art Danmark 2013 Performance at Samtalekøkken, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Performance Standing to the side of the stage, or the area were the audience focusses their attention because a video is projected, Brian starts his performance by hiding his head between his hands, like someone in distress. The gesture slowly merges into others. His fingers move around his head and we feel we might see devil’s horns or a vampire’s fangs. From a pocket of his impeccable black suit, he produces a disposable camera, and in slow, ceremonial gestures, reminding us of an uncanny if not too skillful magician, he proceeds to snap pictures of audience […]

Anya Liftig (US)

Anya Liftig Work for Live Art Danmark 2013 “Bad Salad” at Hitparaden 1 Bad Salad There’s a long line of performances that deal with human-animal relationships and cross-collaboration in Anya’s work . For her 10 minute performance in the courtyard of the venue of both Hitparaden, Pumpehuset in the center of Copenhagen, she expanded the scope of her often intimate relations with non-human organisms to the ingredients of a salad. Emitting sounds of fear and pain she shredded a head of iceberg lettuce, a bunch of carrots and various other vegetables using no tools, but her hands, teeth and other parts of her body. Her ferocious action transformed the usually […]

Andrés Galeano (ES)

Andrés Galeano Work for Live Art Danmark 2012 “Watching the Sun”, Samtalekøkken at Hofteatret. Watching the Sun For his performance, Andrés used the setting of the historical court theatre at Christiansborg castle in the centre of Copenhagen for a meditation about the sun and, in extention, about light. The performance begins with a series of slides, projected on the ceiling of the theatre, alternating between artworks and landscapes. In the completely dark theatre, he plays with the visibility of his own body using a series of different lamps and viewing devices. Finally, after the lights come back up, he unrolls the poster of a sunny beach and completes the image […]
