He also presented an impressive solo performance, “Rust a Gust”. Outside, in the semi dark of the November night in Aalborg, he manipulated a collection of natural objects, including water, twigs, stones and strings, as well as artists materials, paper and ink on a table covered in white cloth. Siple manipulations and movement, but mostly focus and an almost uncanny personal presence let these simple […]

Black Market International

Black Market International Work with Live Art Denmark 2015: group performance at Kulstof 15, Nordkraft, Aalborg For a long durational group performance, members of the legendary performance collective (not a group!) Black Market International took over the vast hall of Nordkraft, a former coal fired power plant. Starting with a selection from their huge archive of helpful objects and action-images, amassed in more than 30 yeas of common practice, they quietly set out to act and interact, shape the atmosphere and temperature of the space for the given time of six hours. As always with Black Market, there is no theme or content beyond the basic idea of creating encounters […]

Myriam Laplante (CA/IT)

Myriam Laplante Work for Live Art Denmark 2015: “The Phenomenology of Doubt” and group performance with Black Market International at Kulstof 15 The Phenomenology of Doubt Myriam performs in front of a blackboard with a piece of chalk attached to its center with a piece of string. She writes the word “doubt” in the highest point the chalk will reach, followed by “art” and “universe” in the lower left and right segments, roughly where the 4 and 8 would be on the face of a clock. She then completes the circle until it reads “the phenomenology of doubt in the post-material universe of contemporary performance art through the study of […]

In her performance “Orsoq III, subarctic sushi!”, Jessie Kleemann, dressed in a revealing black dress and barefooted, works with a signature material of her home island, Greenland. She approaches a pile of blubber, laid out on an otherwise empty, black stage, and proceeds to handle the gresy material, balancing it on her hands, taking it into her mouth, letting it slide down her cleavage, cutting it with a special knife, and moving it across the stage. After each action, she stares at the audience, makes faces, […]

Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt (DK)

Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt Work for Live Art Denmark 2014 “Zoo” for Now and Again Zoo “Zoo” is an original video created for our series of video performances,  “Now and Again”. It is a living-room performance, exhibiting the vain need to be remembered. The interest of the work is a time-based portrait. In the live moment of the performance an improvised personae is unfolded over two hours. In the repeatable video portrait cut down to twenty minutes this performed subjectivity is edited, shaped and consolidated into a contradictory and tamed portrait of the artist as a young woman. Editing and sound are explicitly commenting the act of auto-portraiture as the performance […]
