Togetyher they created costumes of found and cheaply bought materials and developed the series of silent physical situations the performancce consists of. The poses they assumed were reminiscent of early Avantgarde dance and Dada, of contemporary dance and theatre. Donning red wigs that obscure their faces, they moved slowly in the sparse light of a video projection that showed the same […]

Sofie Vollquarz Lebech (DK)

Sofie Vollquarz Lebech Work for Live Art Danmark 2013 “(In)visibility” at Samtalekøkken (In)visibility We invited Sofie to perform at our Samtalekøkken at Kunsthal Nikolaj. Her investigation of (in)visibility began with her sitting for a long while at a table in front of a laptop, her face and body obscure, in the shadows. Behind her, phrases were projected on to a large  screen. They added up to a meditation on invisibility, identity and presence. We read in total silence. The last words that lit up on the screen were: Light, costume, movement, emotion, voice. So theatre is introduced, as Sofie finally gets up. She shines a floodlight into the high ceiling […]

Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys, great white art men of the 20th century, were conjured up as checkered shirted zombies in a carefully outfitted haunted house, a space populated by wild and free associations on money, markets and the European Union, constructed from some debris salvaged from the ruins of Western theatre. She She Pop (DE)

She She Pop Work for Live Art Danmark 2005 “Warum tanzt ihr nicht?” at Berliner Luft 2 Warum tanzt ihr nicht? The ballroom is a promise, a place of great anticipations and secret desires and – as desires so often do not suffice – a place of hidden plans, old and new strategies and their spectacular staging. She She Pop turned the theatre space of Kanonhallen into a dance floor and showed the ballroom with all its myths as a pitfall of pathetically exaggerated expectations. Fantasy and reality diverged dramatically. Every dancer – prom queen, wallflower, gentleman or gate crasher – was caught in their role. The audience moved back […]
