2019 “Children and Other Radicals” at Live Art for Børn 6

Children and Other Radicals
The legendary Finnish performance group joined forces with a group of grown ups, children and young people for this unconventional dance piece about money, capital and economy that we presented in the program of our 6th Live Art for Børn festival. As the lights gradually and artfully come up, all ten members of the cast stand motionless facing the audience, reciting a series of statements about life in late capitalism, swelling into a chorus of pressure, not knowing and confusion. Ten minutes into the show they, again only gradually, begin to move, at first only changing positions, standing still again, watching each other. Eventually guestures, sparse dance movements and sounds, produced by the dancers’ voices, are added. They form groups, interact, walk short distances together, only to break up, mix again and form new constellations. No explanations, no hints connect these images with the opening satements. It ends with a furious chorus of collective air guitar playing.

About the Artists
Founded in 2000 in Helsinki, the international performance company Oblivia is a unique force on the Finnish performance scene. Oblivia’s collectively devised, interdisciplinary and minimalist performances merge the boundaries of art forms and nationalities. The background of Oblivias members from Finland and Germany are in music, dance and text. This mixture creates a vibrant and special tension and humour in the work. From the beginning the core members have been working together creating a common performance language. Guest collaborators are invited to partake in individual projects.
